Insurance and Paying for Services

Raven Counseling understands that being able to afford regular sessions can be stressful. Therefore, we try to be as accommodating as possible when a client is experiencing financial stress so they are able to have access to quality, affordable care. We accept most major insurances. If planning to use insurance, contact your insurance company prior to our first appointment to understand your benefits and coverage. Ask about outpatient mental health coverage for 90791 and 90837 CPT codes. Our TIN is 88-2682563 and our Type II NPI is 1013646868. Even though we may be in-network with your insurance company, you may still need to meet a deductible before insurance pays for sessions. We value transparency with our billing practices, are happy to answer any billing or insurance related questions, and offer good faith estimates for private pay clients upon request.

  • When talking with your insurance, these questions may be helpful in better understanding your coverage:

    • Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?

    • Is the provider/clinic I want to see in-network with my specific plan?

    • Do I need to meet a deductible before my plan pays for sessions?

    • What is my deductible and how much of it have I met to date?

    • Is there a limit to how many sessions I can have per year?

    • Do I have a copay for sessions?

    • How much is the copay?

    • Do I have telehealth coverage?

  • Private pay (paying for services out of pocket without going through health insurance) is becoming more popular for several reasons. Insurance is cutting mental health related benefits; if you have to meet a deductible, paying out of pocket can sometimes be more cost effective; it can also provide clients with peace of mind that insurance companies will not have access to their diagnosis, treatment plan or session notes. When you pay out of pocket, insurance is not involved in your treatment. You are not bound to the interventions deemed appropriate by insurance companies, limited to a certain number of sessions, or limited in the approach your provider can use to work with you.

If you are paying out of pocket, Raven Counseling charges $200 for the intake session and $180 for our standard 53 minute follow up sessions. We realize that this may not be financially realistic for everyone, therefore, we allow our clinicians to decide if they would like to offer a sliding scale fee option and payment plans. Please reach out to your individual clinician about their specific sliding scale and payment plan policy. You can use HSA/FSA funds to pay for sessions out of pocket.

  • Raven Counseling accepts checks, cash, credit card, and HSA/FSA cards.

  • Raven Counseling provides Good Faith Estimates for clients paying out of pocket upon request in accordance with the No Surprise Billing Act. If you plan to pay out of pocket, ask your provider for a Good Faith Estimate prior to your first appointment.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
